North Station serves MBTA commuter rails, the Orange and Green Lines of Boston's public subway system, and Amtrak regional rails to points north and west of the city. Located underneath TD Banknorth Garden, North Station operates 10 rail tracks, bus terminals, a subway station, and a 1275-spot underground parking garage. The current structure has space for two additional rails should the be required and occupies the same plot of land as Union Station which first opened in 1893. North Station is owned by the MBTA and is located 1.5 miles from South Station although the two are not directly connected by any rail or subway lines.
