Swan BoatsBoston's swan boats are a fleet of recreational pontoon boats that provide 15 minute tours of the Lagoon in the Public Garden. The swan boats have been in continuous operation during summer months since the 1870s. Approximately 30 feet in length, several rows of bench seats accommodate approximately 20 passengers. An operator sits in a large swan-shaped seat at the rear of the boat using peddles to drive paddles which propel the vessel. A cultural icon of the city, Boston's swan boats famously appear in Robert McCloskey's children's book Make Way for Ducklings.
