Harvard Square is a shopping and transportation hub in the center of Cambridge adjacent to the resident university's Harvard Yard. Located at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, Brattle Street, and John F Kennedy Street, the Harvard Square area is home to a number of restaurants, shops, and media outlets. A sunken area near the entrance to the MBTA's Harvard Station called "The Pit" hosts an outdoor cafe and serves as a congregating spot for tourists, students, and street performers.
