Funded by a not-for-profit organization and located in the Boston Common, Frog Pond is a shallow man-made water feature that adapts its purpose to the seasons. During the spring and fall, Frog Pond is filled with water and serves as a tranquil reflecting pool. During the hot summer months of July and August, the six-inch-deep pond becomes a wading pool with sprayers to help cool and entertain Boston's youth. From November to March, an underground refrigeration system is turned on as the pond transforms into a manicured skating rink. First operated in 1997, the skating rink is home to the Boston Common Skating School which offers instructional programs for skaters ranging from three years to adults. The rink also offers public day and seasonal passes as well as private rentals on Monday nights. Seasonally, Frog pond features an on site snack bar with facilities for storage locker and skate rentals.
