Founded in 1733, the former site of this parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts burned in 1872. Its replacement, the current structure, was completed in 1877. Trinity Church is located on Copley Square and is the first building of the Richardson Romanesque style which is characterized by a clay roof, rough stone, heavy arches, and a dominating 211 foot tall central tower. Noted as one of the "ten most significant buildings in the United States" by the American Institute of Architects and registered as a National Historic Landmark, the church is laid out in the shape of a modified Greek Cross and features more than 21,000 square feet of internal murals in addition to numerous decorative stained glass windows. Trinity Church remains an active religious center and maintains a congregation of approximately 3000 households. Lead by Reverend Anne Bonnyman, Trinity Church hosts four public Sunday services year round and three public weekday services September through June.
