Wang TheatreThe Wang Theatre is part of the Citi Performing Arts Center which incorporates the Wang Theatre, nearby Shubert Theatre, and the organization formerly known as the Wang Center for the Performing Arts. The Wang Theatre itself is a 3600+ seat facility that plays host to a variety of broadway, theater, music, dance, opera, and film events. Since 1962 it has also been the primary performing venue for the Boston Ballet, famous for their annual seasonal presentation of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite. The facility first opened its doors on Tremont Street in 1925 as The Metropolitan Theatre which, in 1962, was renamed The Music Hall. In 1980 the theatre was converted to a not-for-profit organization following a generous donation by Dr. An Wang. The theatre was titled in his honor then renamed again three years later when, in 1983, it became known as the Wang Center for the Performing Arts. Significant renovations to the interior of the building were carried out during the 1980s and 1990s during which time the center raised an additional $9.8 million dollars in private funding. In 2006, the Wang Center for the Performing arts was renamed The Citi Performing Arts Center as part of a 15 year promotional partnership with Citigroup.
